Blossoming Gifts | Review and Discount Code

Blossoming Gifts | Review and Discount Code

Most of us like receiving flowers, so when I was contacted by Blossoming Gifts to try out their service, I was only too happy to. I was recently let down by a well known company when they left my mum’s birthday flowers on her doorstep for them to be consequently stolen, so I was hoping this smaller company would fare better to say the least! Luckily, Blossoming Gifts flower delivery options include next day and named day options so I had no mishaps when receiving my bouquet!

I received the avalanche rose and peony bouquet from the summer flowers range. The delivery was made in a sturdy box, ensuring no damage to the delicate flowers, which were then presented in coloured cellophane with a wet bag to keep them fresh in transit. My delivery was scheduled for a Saturday morning and I had no problems with it – hurrah!

The roses in the bouquet were mostly opened, but only one of the peonies was halfway opened when I received them. The roses lasted a good week, then the following weekend I disposed of them and created a display with the peonies. I think I will get another week out of two of them that are now open, and two out of the five that are not! I think this represents great value for money and I love to receive flowers that include buds as I know I’ll get longer enjoyment out of them. I also really liked how the greenbell foliage fell around the ‘vase’ I popped them in – it made for a very pretty display.

Blossoming Gifts deliver all over the UK so are a great choice if you are looking for flowers online. They are also very affordable – my bouquet was £29.99 with free chocolates included (not pictured as I scoffed them) but you can upgrade to a large version for just £5 extra. They also do a range of cheap flowers  that include some lovely selections for under £20 if you are on a budget. I know I’ll have to get my mum the Candyfloss Carnations from here next time!

If you would like to treat someone (or yourself, why not?!) here’s a discount code for 33% off: BGIFTS33 (not valid on the Flowers by Post range, but there are lots out-with this selection). I have a few birthdays coming up so will definitley be making the most of this.

Enjoy!

Flamingo Candles The Melt Crowd | August Box

Flamingo Candles The Melt Crowd | August Box

Ooooh hello new subscription box! This one has actually been going for a couple of month now, but I’ve just jumped on yet another bandwagon and signed myself up to the Flamingo Candles The Melt Crowd subscription.

Flamingo Candles The Melt Crowd | August Box

For £10 per month (including delivery) you receive 8 full size wax melts and a 20% discount code to use on the Flamingo Candles website that month. On your first month you also a receive a free wax burner, in case you don’t have on already. In all honesty, the burner I received is not the greatest – I think it’s obvious in the photo above but it has quite a lot of flaws in the glaze, but I’m not really complaining. We already have quite a nice burner in the living room, so I’m happy to have this one tucked away in another room – it’s not actually cracked so I’m not concerned that it might break, it’s just that the glaze is a bit sloppy. I do think it’s a nice gesture to provide one, and I think I was just unlucky as other people’s seem to be fine.

Flamingo Candles The Melt Crowd | August Box

Another thing that I like is that subsequent boxes are letterbox sized (all my fave subs boxes are – Lucky Dip Club, Geeky Little Stitcher, Fragrance Shop…). No red card of doom here! They’ll also have your hall smelling lush by the time you get home, these are seriously strong!

Flamingo Candles The Melt Crowd | August Box

So without further ado, here’s a breakdown of the August selection:

  • Kir Royale – Blackcurrant and wine inspired by the classic cocktail. I like this one indeed.
  • Doughnuts – a preview of their upcoming Circus collection. Foodie/cake scents are a bit of a miss with me, but if you like sweet, doughy smells, that’s exactly what this is.
  • Dahlia – Melt Crowd exclusive. Weirdly I’m also not a massive fan of purely floral scents but I imagine this one will be popular.

Flamingo Candles The Melt Crowd | August Box

  • Pomegranate and Cider – MMMM this is more like it. Fruity but warm, it’s my favourite this month.
  • Ginger and Lime – Does what it says on the wrapper, I do love this one too. It’s more lime than ginger so a great summer fragrance.
  • Fresh Cotton – Melt Crowd exclusive. I do also have the Yankee Candle version of this scent and I do have to say that the Yankee one is a little more successful – it smells clean and pure, while this one edges a little too much on the “bathroom clean” side for me. That said, I’m planning a deep clean of the house at the weekend and I’ll for sure have this burning afterwards to up the freshness factor.

Flamingo Candles The Melt Crowd | August Box

  • Green Apples – Strange that this would be a red melt with a green wrapper… but it smells like apples and you can’t go wrong with that! love this one too.
  • Strawberries and Champagne – so unsurprisingly the booze inspired scents have gone down well with me this month! This is a very sweet, candied strawberry smell which I’m currently burning and very much enjoying. It’s making my room smell like the perfect girly, blogging space.

Can’t wait to see what’s in next month’s box. I’m crossing my fingers for some cosy scents now we’re heading towards autumn. Pumpkin spiced latte anyone? I jest, I jest…

August Wishlist | Palm Leaf Paradise

August Wishlist | Palm Leaf Paradise

This month’s wishlist is all about holding on to the holiday vibes with some tropical palm leaf inspired prints and goodies.

Left to right, top to bottom:

Corn Palm from Homebase (£39.99)
This little guy will grow up to one metre. Or he will in a green thumbed house far away from me. I’m getting better with my house-plant keeping though – I’ve been practising on the office plants which are mostly all still alive! When we move into a (hopefully) bigger house I definitely want to put a few plants about the place.

Palm Printed Jacket from Dorothy Perkins (£17.50)
I love this jacket and it’s versatile enough for work and play.

Banana Leaf Phone Case by Kiwihen (£13.90)
I really need a new phone case. I’m a bit bored of my current marble printed one and it’s a bit cracked at the bottom. I love this illustrated banana leaf one – the prettiest of the leaf prints!

The Melt Crowd from Flamingo Candles (£10 per month)
Not exclusively tropical, but Flamingo Candles includes melts such as Tomato Leaf, Mango and Dragonfruit and Tropical Coconut and Honey. I just tried my first melt from them and it rocks so will be signing up for this subscription box very soon!

White Palm Tree Print Shirt Dress from New Look (£22.99)
New Look has stacks of palm prints clothes in all colours from blue, to green, to neon pink to this more subdued black and white number. I could have filled this entire list with New Look, but I decided to settle for just this one as I thought it was the most wearable (for me).

Palm Print Dress with Collar by Iska at ASOS (£14)
Another really pretty, but subtle dress. Spoiled for choice!

What are you wishing for this month? I’m also hoping for some sunshine but feel that might be pushing it!

July Wishlist | Shark Week

July Wishlist Shark Week

It’s Shark Week! TBH every week is shark week to me, cos I freaking’ love sharks, but it’s the time of year when everyone else gets excited about them as the Discovery Channel starts their annual Shark Week programming this Sunday. So this month’s wishlist has a distinctly toothy feeling in honour of the top of the food chain.

Clockwise from top left:

Great White Shark Embroidery Art from Art for Animals (£6.50 with 10% donated to animal charities)
I’m having a great love affair with embroidery art at the moment – my Instagram is loaded with great artists and I am in awe of the craft. I love this simple stitch which I think captures the softer side of the Great White (still wouldn’t cuddle ’em though!)

Shark Bag by The Rodnik Band (£79)
Absolutely love this novelty bag with a cheeky grin! It looks like the perfect bag for a night out, holding just the essential.

Ocean Cologne by The Library of Fragrance (£15)
Well what else would a sharkie smell like?

Hammerhead Shark Necklace by Honoloulou’s (£21 with £3 donated to Sharks4Kids)
I adore these handmade (in Bristol) necklaces, available in multiple shark silhouettes and a range of patterns and colours. The charity supported by Honoloulou’s works with kids in Florida to educate them about sharks and all the great things they do for our planet to foster the next generate of shark advocates and help protect them in the future. Great cause!

July Wishlist Shark Week

Suede Fringed Shark Tooth Backpack from River Island (£45)
If the Rodnik bag is a bit OTT, this RI offering is far more subtle and hits the fringing trend for the summer. I do love a good backpack too.

Shark vs Mermaid Swimsuit by BlackMilk (£45 depending on AUD exchange rate)
I’ve wanted this swimsuit for ages and ages, I’ve seen countless knockoffs but I’ve no doubt that the genuine BlackMilk one will be worth the wait and the dollars. It’s two of my top films in one glorious mash up! (Sorry Ariel).

Shark Print Vest by Illustrated People at Topshop (£25)
I know that sharks aren’t mindless eating machines like this vest might suggest, but you gotta respect that gob! Pure summer cas’.

Shark Attack Platform Heels from Sour Puss (£32 depending on USD exchange rate)
Yeah… don’t think I’d be able to walk in these but I’d look fierce as f*ck and that’s all we really want from Shark Week.

If you love sharks as much as me tell me why in the comments and let me know about any cool discoveries!

June Wishlist | Dinosaur Inspired

June Wishlist Dinosaur

Welcome to this month’s wishlist, which, as you can see is themed all things dinosaur. I am obsessed with dinosaurs, I just find them so interesting, and this month is looking pretty heavy on the dino-activities. I’m going to see Pete Larson and Jack Horner at Cheltenham Science Festival and I’m going to the Edinburgh Zoo Nights to see the Dinosaurs Return exhibition. Pretty excited!

Here’s my current wishlist clockwise from top left:

Glitter Plesiosaur Brooch from DesignosaurYEAH (£12.09 each)
It’s Nessie! I love these sparkly accessories, but I can’t decide between the blue and green.

Dino Dance Jersey Sleeveless Tank Top from Chaser LA (£40.50)
This is currently on sale but they only have limited sizes available. Be quick if it takes your fancy. I particularly like the pterodactyl on this top.

T-Rex Print by Aimee Bray (£6.00)
Aimee Bray is a tattoo apprentice and her work is amazing already. Not sure if I’m ready to get this bad boy tattooed on me, but I’d certainly like him hanging on my office wall. She also has an awesome velociraptor and a  pretty badass ocra. I need ’em all.

Dinosaur Clutch Lime by The Whitepepper (£40.00)
This deeply impractical bag also comes in black, but go bold or go home right? A lime Stegosaurus – it’s the stuff novelty clutch dreams are made of.

Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton (£5.99)
The book that started it all. I’ve never read it but I feel like I must soon. I’m not a big believer in the whole “the book is always better than the film” thing, especially because Jurassic Park is literally one of my favourite films, I can’t imagine liking the book more… But I am interested in the source material and seeing how it’s been adapted.

Dinosaur Dress with Front Pockets by Worn By (£25.00)
Another item currently on sale. I like a good pocket on a dress so this is a nice casual summer option. I also kinda like that the dinosaur on the print looks a bit perplexed. Makes a change from just aggressive. Giant lizards have feelings too guys.

‘Rare and Radiant’ Bohemian Nail Polish by China Glaze (£3.95)
I had to include a couple of beauty items and this bronze/olive duochrome polish is perfect for a slightly dino inspired mani. This would be cool with a scale print accent nails. Yep, 4 years on, still loving the accent nail.

‘In the Garden’ Eye Shadow Palette from Stila (£25.00)
This doesn’t look like much from the photo but I like the look of the bottom row for creating a gold smoky eye with a flash of green – the match your nails of course! The Smudge Stick that comes with it is also black with gold and green shimmer so would really ramp the look up into night out territory.

OK, closing my laptop now before I spend all my money! Let me know if you’ve made any good dino discoveries lately.

Lucky Dip Club | Birds of Paradise

Lucky Dip Cub March Birds of Paradise

This month’s Lucky Dip Club was a riot of exotic birdies and colour. This subscription service continues to go from strength to strength, now with monthly guest contributors and the introduction of a charm club. A club within a club, I love it! It’s £15 a month and goes on sale at 7am on the 1st of each month.

Lucky Dip Cub March Birds of Paradise

The guest contributor for March was Hollie Harris who designed super cute 70s style bird hair slides. I’ve seen people on Instagram rocking these in purple, blue, red, brunette, blonde hair and they all look fab!

Lucky Dip Cub March Birds of Paradise

Yey! Stationery! I love this summery to-do list. I like the very eighties design too.

The charm of the month is a classy silver swan. It came on a necklace chain with the bracelet separate so that you could wear it while you build up the charm collection. I thought this was a really sweet gesture and didn’t expect a necklace too.

We also received a personalised Pink Flamingo Motel keyring. I saw @littlestlass on Instagram had turned hers into a necklace and I just had to copy!

Lastly we got to get our paper craft on with an origami set. I made the flying bird from the instructions supplied plus a swan and a rather dumpy looking penguin. So much fun!

The next box is themed around April showers with the theme of “Raining Cats and Dogs” and features the amazing Gemma Correll. Cannot wait for it!

Lucky Dip Club | Love Hearts and Lipstick

Lucky Dip Club February Lovehearts and Lipstick

I do love Lucky Dip Club days. As you most likely already know the score with them now I’ll just skip straight to the contents.

As February is the month of love (Valentine’s Day being slap bang in the middle and all), the theme was “Love Hearts and Lipstick”. The collaboration was with LaLaLand so featured a personalised pencil from PopCult Pencils. It also included a glittery pout badge, washi tape with sweet slogans, a love letter necklace and a patch DIY kit.

Lucky Dip Club February Lovehearts and Lipstick

The necklace is so dainty and pretty!

Lucky Dip Club February Lovehearts and Lipstick

I made some nautical themed patches with the DIY kit. Not perfect but I like them. I’m enjoying doing some basic sewing so I might try and get some more practice in and learn a few more techniques.

‘Til next month, S.W.A.L.K!
