Flamingo Candles The Melt Crowd | August Box

Flamingo Candles The Melt Crowd | August Box

Ooooh hello new subscription box! This one has actually been going for a couple of month now, but I’ve just jumped on yet another bandwagon and signed myself up to the Flamingo Candles The Melt Crowd subscription.

Flamingo Candles The Melt Crowd | August Box

For £10 per month (including delivery) you receive 8 full size wax melts and a 20% discount code to use on the Flamingo Candles website that month. On your first month you also a receive a free wax burner, in case you don’t have on already. In all honesty, the burner I received is not the greatest – I think it’s obvious in the photo above but it has quite a lot of flaws in the glaze, but I’m not really complaining. We already have quite a nice burner in the living room, so I’m happy to have this one tucked away in another room – it’s not actually cracked so I’m not concerned that it might break, it’s just that the glaze is a bit sloppy. I do think it’s a nice gesture to provide one, and I think I was just unlucky as other people’s seem to be fine.

Another thing that I like is that subsequent boxes are letterbox sized (all my fave subs boxes are – Lucky Dip Club, Geeky Little Stitcher, Fragrance Shop…). No red card of doom here! They’ll also have your hall smelling lush by the time you get home, these are seriously strong!

So without further ado, here’s a breakdown of the August selection:

  • Kir Royale – Blackcurrant and wine inspired by the classic cocktail. I like this one indeed.
  • Doughnuts – a preview of their upcoming Circus collection. Foodie/cake scents are a bit of a miss with me, but if you like sweet, doughy smells, that’s exactly what this is.
  • Dahlia – Melt Crowd exclusive. Weirdly I’m also not a massive fan of purely floral scents but I imagine this one will be popular.

  • Pomegranate and Cider – MMMM this is more like it. Fruity but warm, it’s my favourite this month.
  • Ginger and Lime – Does what it says on the wrapper, I do love this one too. It’s more lime than ginger so a great summer fragrance.
  • Fresh Cotton – Melt Crowd exclusive. I do also have the Yankee Candle version of this scent and I do have to say that the Yankee one is a little more successful – it smells clean and pure, while this one edges a little too much on the “bathroom clean” side for me. That said, I’m planning a deep clean of the house at the weekend and I’ll for sure have this burning afterwards to up the freshness factor.

  • Green Apples – Strange that this would be a red melt with a green wrapper… but it smells like apples and you can’t go wrong with that! love this one too.
  • Strawberries and Champagne – so unsurprisingly the booze inspired scents have gone down well with me this month! This is a very sweet, candied strawberry smell which I’m currently burning and very much enjoying. It’s making my room smell like the perfect girly, blogging space.

Can’t wait to see what’s in next month’s box. I’m crossing my fingers for some cosy scents now we’re heading towards autumn. Pumpkin spiced latte anyone? I jest, I jest…

The Fragrance Shop Discovery Club | Summer 2015

The Fragrance Shop Discovery Club | Summer 2015

I signed up for the Fragrance Shop Discovery Club back in April for the Spring edition and to be honest, I then forgot all about it. So it was a very pleasant surprise when the Summer edition landed on my doorstep last week. Firstly, I love the packaging  – the yellow and blue feels very beachy and I always appreciate a letterbox friendly parcel! It was also stuffed with 8 perfume samples – five for me and three for the man. Here’s what was included:

The Fragrance Shop Discovery Club | Summer 2015

  • Hugo Boss Boss Ma Vie – green freshness from cactus blossom with floral at it’s heart and cedarwood to warm. I love this one!
  • Paco Rabanne 1 Million Cologne – a citrus explosion with masculine leather and spicy tonka been that will transport you to memories of heady summer nights.
  • Givenchy Dahlia Divin – soft, almost powdery peach with jasmine and vanilla musk. A very feminine scent.
  • 007 For Women – black pepper lends a spicy hit to blackberry and jasmine with a rich base of vanilla, musk and cedarwood. More unique and classy than you might expect for a ‘novelty’ choice.
  • Dolce and Gabbana Light Blue Sunset in Salina – Similar to the Paco Rabanne but fresher and lighter with vine leaves, freesia and orange flower with an amber base.
  • Prada Luna Rossa Sport (for men) – an energetic blend of ginger, juniper berries and lavender.
  • Dolce and Gabbana – Intenso (for men) – again featuring lavender, this one is woodier and deeper with basil the companion.
  • Loewe Solo Loewe Cedro – a woody fragrance with cedarwood, amber and gayac wood, this one is freshened with citrus and spicy pink pepper.

I’m very happy with this box, I like all of the women’s fragrances and I know that David also likes his. I love getting these little perfume samples – perfume tends to last me a really long time so it’s nice to mix it up without breaking the bank (or overloading my dresser). The club costs £5 per quarter but you can also get a one off box whenever you like. You will also receive money off vouchers for all of the featured fragrances. Good deal in my book.

Geeky Little Stitcher Monthly Cross Stitch Club

Geeky Little Stitcher Monthly Cross Stitch Club

Today I wanted to introduce a new monthly subscription box I’ve been loving recently. The Geeky Little Stitcher cross stitch club from Jess, based in Exeter. It’s kawaii themed and each month is a based around a different cute foody character. The first box was released in April with an avocado theme, May’s was burgers, June is cake and July’s (now available) is doughnuts – you can see the pattern emerging I’m sure.

The box costs £9.99 plus £3.50 UK p&p and includes one main pattern, including all the threads you need, an embroidery hoop, aida cloth and a needle. The patterns are bold and contemporary but simple so it’s good even for beginners like me.

You will also receive a second surprise pattern and themed extras. These are a fabulous touch as the box is already great value. I love the ‘B is for Burger’ pattern (this would make a lovely unusual addition to a kids bedroom). The burger fabric swatch is dead handy for keeping needles safe and I always have room for cute stickers and address labels. And sweets, always room in my belly for them!

WIP shot. I worked on the pattern for a couple of hours a night for 2 or 3 weekends. I’m pretty slow but I’m sure my stitching will speed up as I tackle more patterns.

The finished product! I think I like it without the hearts as well, but let me know if you disagree! I can’t decide.

Can’t wait to get started on the next one. You can sign up here and check out Jess’ other designs as well.

The Fragrance Shop | Discovery Club Spring 2015

The Fragrance Shop | Discovery Club Spring 2015

The Discovery Box from The Fragrance Shop is a quarterly subscription box which guarantees your best smelling mail packed with perfume samples. It’s four boxes per year for just £5 each. The number of samples varies but this one included 6 scents for women and 1 for the guys. The best thing is that the fragrances are all current season and includes a £5 or £10 off voucher for each one.

The Spring box is still available to order so this is what you can expect:

  • Hugo Boss Hugo Woman – fruity and floral with boysenberry and jasmine yet reminiscent of their classic masculine scent with sandalwood and cedar.
  • Givenchy Very Irresitible – very rosy and feminine with a hit of star anise.
  • Guerlain Le Petite Robe Noire Eau Fraiche – light and fruity with lemon, bergamot and rose but with a bit of a nutty bite via pistachio and almond.
  • Versace Eros Pour Femme – a strong fragrance with a sharp citrus hit. It has lemon and bergamot like the Guerlain but is a more rich scent with sandalwood and musk base notes.
  • Dolce and Gabbana Floral Drops – as you can guess, it’s very floral with lily, daffodil and neroli leaf with musk to deepen it down.
  • Stella McCartney Stella – a bright fruity scent with lemon and mandarin plus floral notes supplied by rose, peony and violet.
  • Versace Eros (for him) – a masculine scent with apple and mint for freshness and vanilla and cedar wood for depth.

I feel like it has something for everyone. I don’t love the Versace or the Guerlain but I do love the Stella and the Hugo Boss. Looking forward to seeing the summer selection which I believe will be available in May.

Lucky Dip Club | Birds of Paradise

Lucky Dip Cub March Birds of Paradise

This month’s Lucky Dip Club was a riot of exotic birdies and colour. This subscription service continues to go from strength to strength, now with monthly guest contributors and the introduction of a charm club. A club within a club, I love it! It’s £15 a month and goes on sale at 7am on the 1st of each month.

Lucky Dip Cub March Birds of Paradise

The guest contributor for March was Hollie Harris who designed super cute 70s style bird hair slides. I’ve seen people on Instagram rocking these in purple, blue, red, brunette, blonde hair and they all look fab!

Yey! Stationery! I love this summery to-do list. I like the very eighties design too.

The charm of the month is a classy silver swan. It came on a necklace chain with the bracelet separate so that you could wear it while you build up the charm collection. I thought this was a really sweet gesture and didn’t expect a necklace too.

We also received a personalised Pink Flamingo Motel keyring. I saw @littlestlass on Instagram had turned hers into a necklace and I just had to copy!

Lastly we got to get our paper craft on with an origami set. I made the flying bird from the instructions supplied plus a swan and a rather dumpy looking penguin. So much fun!

The next box is themed around April showers with the theme of “Raining Cats and Dogs” and features the amazing Gemma Correll. Cannot wait for it!

Lucky Dip Club | Love Hearts and Lipstick

Lucky Dip Club February Lovehearts and Lipstick

I do love Lucky Dip Club days. As you most likely already know the score with them now I’ll just skip straight to the contents.

As February is the month of love (Valentine’s Day being slap bang in the middle and all), the theme was “Love Hearts and Lipstick”. The collaboration was with LaLaLand so featured a personalised pencil from PopCult Pencils. It also included a glittery pout badge, washi tape with sweet slogans, a love letter necklace and a patch DIY kit.

The necklace is so dainty and pretty!

I made some nautical themed patches with the DIY kit. Not perfect but I like them. I’m enjoying doing some basic sewing so I might try and get some more practice in and learn a few more techniques.

‘Til next month, S.W.A.L.K!

Big Pop Club | March Box

Big Pop Club March Box

Big Pop Club is the newest subscription box on the scene from illustrator Ella Masters. I managed to get my hands on the very first one so I thought I would share the contents with you lovely readers.

Promising illustrated goods in Ella’s unique style, Big Pop Club is a monthly dose of tats, beards and old school joy. It includes a monthly illustrated calendar and other items such as tote bags, tea towels, patches and stationery.  Subscriptions open on the 1st of each month and are posted out (in letter box friendly boxes) before the end of the same month. This one was £20 plus £3.50 postages, although now you choose from three sizes – £25.50 for large, £19.50 for medium and £15.50 for a mini box. I’m not sure what this means for contents in terms of how much exactly you get in each box – I’m guessing that the one I have would be classed as “medium” but I could be wrong on this.

The March box was circus themed and included a fortune-teller tote bag, a notebook illustrated with a sweet circus elephant, some temporary tattoos, a colouring sheets and felt tip pens and a ‘Big Pop’ poster/calendar. There was also a couple of pompoms in the box which Tilly promptly ran off with!

I think it’s a really great selection, I love the bag and the notebooks are always handy to have. I also really like the poster, just need to find somewhere to hang it now.

The April box is themed “Cats with Tats” which sounds ridiculously fun. Subscriptions are now open.
