#BEDM | Room Tour

For the “Home Sweet Home” prompt today I wanted to show a little peek into my bedroom as, after 6 months since moving into this flat, it is finally ready!  So fair warning, this will be a very picture heavy post. As you can tell from the first few pictures, my bedroom is actually pretty girly despite the fact that I live with a man. I have gotten totally my own way with this room so I’ve been pretty spoilt (although David does have his own ‘Man-Cave’ in the spare room – maybe I’ll show you that another day). The paint used throughout is ‘Nordic Spa‘ from the Dulux Light and Space range which give the room a very airy, fresh feel to it. I love this colour so much and I think you could make it work in any room of the house.

Instagram photo frame

The first thing we put on the walls after the paint was this Instagram photo frame which I blogged about here. I still really like it. I haven’t changed the photos yet but plan to get more printed in a few months towards the end of summer so will.

Ikea picture shelf

A more recent addition is this IKEA shelf. All of the furniture in the bedroom is from IKEA apart from the mirrored cabinet (B&Q) and the bed (dunno – the Bed Shed maybe). I like the shelf as you can add a few interesting bits next to your pictures like candles or my vintage Royal Doulton Bulldog. The pictures are by Vivid Please, Bear and Robot and Oh Gosh Cindy.

The corner of the room has some recessed shelves which are super handy although they’re made of old floorboards so a bit ugly. I like to think all my decorations hide that though. The top shelf began as displaying some of our collections of books, (Game of Thrones, Dexter, The Hunger Games) but they’ve since been joined to a lot of my To Be Read list so it’s getting a bit messy up there. I love the next two shelves with their piles of books, especially the beauty related books next t my perfume bottles. And yeah, that is dinosaurs attacking Paris and London up there. Then we have some picture frames and LEGO!

Speaking of LEGO! I love the Computer Guy and the Crazy Cat Lady (with different hair) the most – they represent me and David. Most of the rest of the Minifigure collection is kept in the clip lock jar, still plenty room left for more too!

My desk area harbours a few blogger clichรฉs. The Helmer drawers for nail polish (and stationery in the bottom three, I’m not completely obsessed yet), the IKEA plant pot that doesn’t hold a plant, bunting!

Next we have my two sets of drawers which are always crammed full of unfolded clothes – nice! The taller unit has a lid that lifts up and has a mirror on the inside although mine is always closed due to the huge pink box that lives on top of it with all my bath bombs etc in. It also has two shallow drawers that I keep larger make-up bits in such as palettes and cotton wool as well as overspill from my Muji drawers. As you can see I also have a mirrored bathroom cabinet that I’ve painted (badly!) that houses all my beauty, hair and skin care products that I don’t need to keep in the bathroom.

The photo on top of the Muji drawers is of my Gran when she was in her twenties.

A few more details for you beauty storage fans. My ceramic cupcake pot houses hair ties, kirby grips, that sort of thing – not as cute as the outside suggests. I kept a macaron box from Laduree to use for storage but so far I don’t know what to put in it – any suggestions? Eyeshadows such as the Maybelline Colour Tattoos are the perfect size for it but I don’t thinks that’s at all practical. Ideas welcome! I always seem to get mugs as gifts even though, as I don’t drink tea or coffee, I never drink out of them, so my two favourites now hold my make-up brushes. I really like this, I think it looks really cute and injects a bit of personality into the make-up storage area.

My two favourite things in the room! My bed! I love you, bed. The bedding is from IKEA, throw from Primark and the cushions from Matalan (their homeware range is seriously amazing). You can also see Bad Panda (from Edinburgh Zoo), Derek (the Dugong from Sydney Aquarium) and Dino (from, er, David’s childhood). Then we have this map heart which looks like it should be sold on Not On The High Street but was actually made by David’s mum. It shows Edinburgh, where I was born and Cuckfield, where he has born. So lovely!

Congratulations! You made it to the end of that huge post! I hope you enjoyed that ‘tour’. I know they’re better on YouTube but I don’t have a channel so I’m hoping that this post gave you a similar sense of my own little sanctuary. If you’d like to know where anything is from that I’ve not mentioned, please just ask. And “don’t forget to be awesome”.
