Flavourly Craft Beer Club | January

Flavourly Craft Beer January

If you’re a regular reader you’ll know that I love trying out various subscription boxes. This month though, instead of the usual beauty boxes, we have something a bit more exciting. Well, it is if you’re into beer. Flavourly is a gourmet subscription service where you can choose between their deluxe food box or the craft beer club (or both if you so wish!). David is really into craft beer and micro breweries so of course we ordered the booze box.

This costs £24 plus £2 delivery but they currently have an offer for £10 off your first order. £14 for 8 craft beers and two snacks is pretty good value. At full price you’re not necessarily saving any money, but I see this box as more about discovery so it’s good if you’re interested in craft breweries. Out of the 8, there were only 3 that we had had before – the Brewdogs and the Innis & Gunn – the rest of the brands we hadn’t even seen before, which is pretty good going.

The box includes a booklet with information about the breweries and a location map. Like a lot of people, we’re keen to support small and local businesses whenever possible and it’s nice to know where your drinks come from, so this is a great touch.

Here’s what we received and a very brief verdict:

Eden Brewery St Andrews, St Andrews Blonde: Fruity as you would expect and very enjoyable.

Eden Brewery St. Andrews, Shipwreck IPA:  Good but prefered the other one from St Andrews.

Brewdog, This. Is. Lager.: Brewdog is a favourite brand from Aberdeenshire and this is a good, straightforward lager.

Brewdog Dead Pony Pale Ale: A refreshing and zesty option

Innis and Gunn, Original Oak Aged Beer: Good sweet beer from Edinburgh, you can really taste the toffee and vanilla coming through.

Inveralmond Brewery, Sunburst Bohemian Pilsner: You can really smell and taste the pineapple and grapefruit,  which is surprisingly nice and very refreshing. Favourite of the bunch.

Crafty Dan, 13 Guns American IPA: Smooth but with a hit of hops from the Blackburn brewery.

Crafty Dan, Triple C Golden Ale: Most hoppy of the selection but crisp and tangy.

To go with the beer, a few snacks are included. We received Lemon Sherbet popcorn from Portlebay Popcorn in Devon (more subtle than feared so very nice) and Sweet Potato Crisps from Fairfields Farm in Colchester. Both good snacks to go along with the beers, and again great choices of company to work with.

Overall, we were very happy with this box. We would definitely use this service again and are also thinking of trying out the food box – they look like they have a great selection every month.

Lucky Dip Club November & Lucky Dip Cat Club

Lucky Dip Club November & Lucky Dip Cat Club

I just wanted to share a super quick post today to show you what I got in my Lucky Dip box for November and also to show you the Lucky Dip Cat Club for all you fellow crazy cat ladies out there.

Lucky Dip Club November & Lucky Dip Cat Club

First up, the theme of the November box was the Circus and Leona went down the harlequin and candyfloss inspired route rather than the terrifying Twisty the Clown option. This month the box was laden with stationery goods – cue a very happy me. It included a thank you card, wrapping paper, note paper, postcards, washi tape, DIY gift tags and a keyring. As a thank you to the first 300 subscribers, I also received a really pretty Chinese paper fan.

Lucky Dip Club November & Lucky Dip Cat Club

I particularly love the card and the personalised keyring and the washi tape that features some of the slogans from previous boxes.

Next, we have the Lucky Dip Cat Club box. This is something that will be available quarterly but follows the same idea as the main box – except it’s all cat themed. It was £15 and come packaged in the same way to neatly fit through your letterbox. I missed the first one, but when I found out that the second one was done in collaboration with Hello Harriet, I knew I had to sign up ASAP. As you can see, Harriet designed a super cute kitten to feature on the Lucky Dip boxes – a cheery kitty mid celebration with his party hat on. The items we received were a card (I’ve already earmarked this for someone’s birthday), a wooden badge and a tote bag.

Lucky Dip Club November & Lucky Dip Cat Club

I love Hello Harriet’s delicate style of illustration and I can’t wait to wear this little guy out. It’s extra special knowing it was a limited edition for Lucky Dip folks only.

Sadly, I’ve had to unsub from Lucky Dip Club for a while (a house move necessitating the need to be boringly careful with the pennies) so I’ll be taking to Instagram to jealously pour over the December boxes. I’ve said it before, but Lucky Dip Club is my favourite of all the subscription boxes and I’m sure I’ll be signing up for it again soon. If you want to sign up, head over to the website to find out how here.

Look Fantastic Beauty Box | November

Look Fantastic Beauty Box November

Another day, another beauty box. Seems like everyone is jumping on the mystery box bandwagon. Look Fantastic have been doing theirs for a couple of months now. It is priced at £15 with free delivery, and if you’re at all familiar with LF, you’ll know that they have some pretty good brands on their roster so I was expecting good things. And how right I was!

Look Fantastic Beauty Box November

Glam Glow! Thanks Look Fantastic, that’s all I wanted! Seriously, this is the Youthmud Tingle Exfoliate Treatment (face pack to us mere mortals) and I have been wanting to try this for so long. This is a 15g sample so a decent size, I expect to get at least three uses out of it. I’ll let you know my thoughts very soon.

Look Fantastic Beauty Box November

This is the Monu Soothing Touch Recovery Balm. It’s a really soft cream and with it’s evening primrose fragrance feels like a comforting hug for your face. That’s a really strange description, but the gist is I like it and my winter skin will love it.

Look Fantastic Beauty Box November

Nuxe Nuxellence Jeunesse Youth and Radiance Revealing Fluid. A moisturiser by a fancy name. It’s a bit disappointing to receive two facial moisturisers to be completely honest, although Nuxe is always a welcome brand in my book.

Look Fantastic Beauty Box November

This is the best selling Eve Lom Cleanser. Apparently it’s amazing, but all I know is that it smells horrendous. Like aniseed and cloves and all kinds of other stuff I don’t want near my face. I will try it. Once I’ve used up everything else I have. I’m sure I’ll be converted if it’s as good as the magazine editors claim it is…

Look Fantastic Beauty Box November

Next I got the New CID I-Crayon Lip and Cheek Tint in Rose. I actually have this already, I think it came free in Glamour or something a few months ago. Anyway, it’s very nice. I prefer it on the lips as it’s slightly glossy but a good colour for both.

Look Fantastic Beauty Box November

Lastly, I got the Hand Chemistry Intense Youth Complex hand cream. I’m not usually excited by hand cream as I have so many but I really love this. Maybe it’s the matte box, the neon pink, or the super sciencey looking diagram but I’m quite taken by it all. Apparently it has some sort of mushroom derivative in it which is 400 times more moisturising than hyraluronic acid, which was previously thought to be the most moisturising thing on the planet – 10,000 times more so than water! The beauty world is mental is it not? Anyways, it smells nice – kinda zesty. I’m not worried about my hands showing signs of age just yet so I think I give this to my mum (no offence intended, Ma!) to test out the wild claims.

Pretty good box all in all. Definitely think it’s good value for money and it seems to be very consistent in terms of quality. If you want to pre-order the December box, you can do so here. Otherwise it’s out on the 2nd December and will probably sell out that day.

Have you tried any of these products? What do you think of them?

Lucky Dip Club | Lucky Diner

Lucky Dip Club Lucky Dine

Diner days were happy days in last month’s Lucky Dip Club. If you’re not familiar, Lucky Dip Club is a monthly subscription service priced at £15 per month. It includes a jewellery piece, a DIY kit and a personalised item as well as a selection from homewares, stationery and other fun items. It’s always wonderfully presented and a joy to open. Every month has a new theme so let’s have a look at what was in the Lucky Diner box:

Lucky Dip Club Lucky Dine

The star of the box was the donut, a gorgeous gold necklace. This is a new material for Lucky Dip Club and a really lovely addition. A classy donut, right?

Lucky Dip Club Lucky Dine

This is a magnet and is to be used for sticking takeaway menus to your fridge. I love this idea so much. Unfortunately my fridge is behind a cupboard door so not magnetised but I’m keeping a hold of this for when I do have a nicer fridge.

Lucky Dip Club Lucky Dine

Super cute paper straws. I love a cutesy accessory in my drink so I’m happy with these. Love the colour combination too.

Lucky Dip Club Lucky Dine

The DIY this month is a paper craft where you make your own burger buddy. It’s essentially 3 little boxes that look like a cheery burger.

Lucky Dip Club Lucky Dine

How awesome is this ice cream sundae tea towel? I’m always up for a homeware piece and this will jazz up the boring task of drying the dishes. But it might force me to eat ice cream as soon as I’m finished…

Lucky Dip Club Lucky Dine

For October we got a wee extra for Halloween in the form of a black cat button. I know that there is two schools of thought when it comes to black cats but I fall on the side of them being lucky so fingers crossed this will bring me some good luck! The menu card was also really cool this month with a roller skating waitress.

Lucky Dip Club Lucky Dine

This was another good month. Sadly, I think I’m going to have to dip out of Lucky Dip Club soon as I need to cut back on my spending. Maybe just a couple more…

Nerd Block | October 2014

Nerd Block October 2014

Top tip: If you want to buy a subscription box for a one-off treat, remember to unsubscribe before they charge you for the following month! Yep, forgetting that handy factoid is the sole reason I have a Nerd Block to share with you today. Look out for a Glossybox where the very same thing has happened soon. Luckily, the October Nerd Block is awesome! The best one I’ve seen by a mile. It was clearly fate, not forgetfulness. Nerd Block comes in at around £20 for shipping to the UK and as it always includes a t-shirt I do think this is a pretty good deal.

The October box was curated by none other than Kevin Smith. Both me and the bf had no idea so this was a pleasant and welcome surprise when we unboxed it (over Skype, the joys of long-distance). The theme this month is ‘Collide’ and I think it’s covered well. Lets take a look.

Nerd Block October 2014

First up, a Zelda Dangler thingymajig. Probably won’t use this but at least it’s Link and not some obscure character which you often get in these mystery grab bags.

Nerd Block October 2014

Here we have some vintage style Captain America Trading Cards. You get two complete sets and I really like the look and finish of these – I know that’s a lame thing to like, sorry but I’m interested in paper textures, okay?! I’m sure I’ll be able to come up with a fun drinking game with these. Hey, I managed it with an episode of Eastenders.

Nerd Block October 2014

Marvel vs DC badges. Are you Team Marvel or Team DC? I’m DC everyday of the week. Although I do like Wolverine… he seems like the kinda guy that would switch allegiances though so sticking with DC.

Nerd Block October 2014 Nerd Block October 2014

This is exciting. Stationery! In a Nerd Block?! It’s Batman themed of course – Arkham Asylum Patient Notes to be exact, but practical all the same. Winner.

Nerd Block October 2014

Some Kevin Smith stickers. These are pretty cool, I really like the Jay and Silent Bob/Mario Brother mash up especially. I’m sure David will stick these on a notebook or folder somewhere.

Nerd Block October 2014

I love the Pop! vinyl figurines so was happy to see this one even though I don’t know who Deadpool is. David informs me that he is an X-Man[Men?] and there is an origins film being made for him soon, so was very pleased with this guy. I am too, I literally want all of the Pop! figurines, they’re too cute. Especially this Ash one.

Nerd Block October 2014

Lastly, a Jay and Silent Bob do Batman and Robin t-shirt. Again, I really like this. It’s fun and I know David will wear it.

Nerd Block October 2014

I think you’ll agree with me that that was a pretty good haul, right? Bravo Nerd Block, you really knocked it out the park this month. I did remember to cancel this time, sorry, got bills to pay, but I’ll be back I’m sure!

What do you think of this month’s Nerd Block? And where do you fall on the Marvel vs DC debate?

Memebox | My Cute Wishlist 3

Memebox My Cute Wishlist #3 Memebox My Cute Wishlist #3

After seeing so many fantastic Memebox reviews over on Kelly’s blog, Adventures in Tea and Cake, I’ve taken the plunge and bought myself My Cute Wishlist 3! I thought that this would be a good choice as Korean beauty is known for it’s cute factor. If you’re not familiar with Memebox, it is the best of Korean beauty available to snap up in mystery themed boxes. This “Superbox” came in at around £15 plus shipping and is sold out now but I’m sure number 4 will be available soon. Wanna have a swatch at what I got?

Memebox My Cute Wishlist #3 Memebox My Cute Wishlist #3

Let’s start with the strangest first. This is the Shara Shara Fairy’s Make-up Synergy Sun Cream. Errrr…. OK. It is actually kinda cute to be fair. The concept reminds me of Matey’s shower gels – you know when you were little and got your favourite character for Christmas and all of a sudden bathtime became fun? I think this is a good way to make the boring task of applying sun cream fun for kids. Obviously I would only use sun cream from brands I know and trust on little ‘uns but I appreciate the concept. At a push, I’ll use this if I find myself caught out in an unexpected March heatwave (here’s hoping).

Memebox My Cute Wishlist #3

Next up is the ddung (teehee) Family Foam Cleansing Cream. I got the ‘milky’ variety which smells a bit florally. It’s actually really thick and strange. Don’t love it. How scary is the doll on the bottle too?

Memebox My Cute Wishlist #3

This is more like it! This is Hope Girl Tinted Lip Balm in ‘Hot Cherry’. I obviously will love anything with my name on it but this also smells amazing! Like cherry sherbet. It adds a very sheer pop of colour on your lips and is really glossy. It’s not very hydrating, but works well over a proper lip balm.

Memebox My Cute Wishlist #3

This is probably my favourite item – the Youngwoosa Oh! It’s Lovely and Soft Cream. First of all, the name is awesome. Secondly, the packaging is the best. It’s got a wee dog on it, a smiley face, cute characters… just love it. It also lives up to it’s name as being lovely and soft.

Memebox My Cute Wishlist #3

Another random one! This is Tonymoly Red Cheeks Girl’s Patch. The idea is that if you have a hot, flushed face, slap these on and it’ll calm and moisturise your cheeks. I’m saving these until I get a bad case of wine-face.

Memebox My Cute Wishlist #3

Lastly, we have the Shara Shara Kissing Sugar Lip Scrub. Lip scrubs are very welcome round my house at this time of year. It’s an effective scrub with sugar and walnut shell and it smells of honey. Nice.

Memebox My Cute Wishlist 3

I really enjoyed my first foray into the world of k-beauty. Like most beauty boxes some of the products are a bit hit and miss but it definitely has the fun factor. I really recommend that you head over to the website to check out some of their crazy themes (yoghurt cosmetics anyone?). I really want the new face mask box! Sooo tempted…

Tipple Box | Pre-order at Indiegogo

Tipple Box Preview

The reason that I love subscription boxes is that it is essentially getting a little gift for yourself. There is literally a box that fits everyone, whether you’re a beauty lover, a stationery geek or a massive foodie. And if you’re a bit of a lush (in a good way of course), well, there’s a new box on the scene for you. Meet Tipple Box.

A start-up from Edinburgh, Tipple Box offers a monthly delivery of everything you need to enjoy a cheeky craft cocktail. The kit includes the alcohol, mixers, garnishes, recipe and even the shaker. All you need is a glass and some ice. Each kit includes enough for up to 8 servings so enough to add a dash of flair to a cocktail party or for a pretty fun night in yourself (ahem, drink responsibly folks!). You’ll be a cocktail connoisseur in no time, wowing your chums with your refined taste and mad mixology skills.

The Tipple Box service costs £24 per month (just £3 per cocktail) but you can pre-order the first box for just £20 at Indiegogo here. This closes on November 15th 2014, so be quick! You definitely don’t want to miss out on the craft cocktail revolution.

Tipple Box

I have a sneaky peek at one of their first cocktails for you as a taster of what you can expect. This is the Lady Marmalade (I would have called it The Paddington Bear but maybe beloved childhood characters aren’t an appropriate reference point for cocktails):

1. Fill half of your Shaker Jar with ice (we recommend the crushed stuff)
2. Pour one bottle of the Chase Marmalade Vodka into the Shaker Jar
3. Pour half a bottle of the Fever-Tree Sicilian Lemonade into the Shaker Jar
4. Add half the jar of the Tiptree marmalade
5. Slice your lemon in half, squeeze the juice from one half into the jar (don’t use it all, you’ll need the other half for garnish)
6. Put the lid on the jar, hold on tight and shake for 10 to 20 seconds
7. Pour your Lady Marmalade into ice filled glasses or drink straight from the jar
8. Garnish with a slice of lemon
9. Repeat for a second jars worth

Doesn’t that sound delicious?! The ingredients are all sourced from high quality, premium suppliers which I think will make Tipple Box really stand out. You know you are getting great quality and good value for money here.

I personally can’t wait to start honing my cocktail skills – it’s certainly going to liven up X Factor night! I’m really excited for this new venture and I’m looking forward to seeing how they develop. For more information and to pre-order visit the campaign page here and their website here.

Cheers!
